Dwarf sour cherries
Haskaps

We propagate several cultivars of Prairie-hardy fruit and ornamental species, all which have great potential for growing in cold climates.

We are very excited about dwarf sour cherries from Dr. Bob Bors at University of Saskatchewan.  Dr. Bors has been developing and testing these plants for several years, with the introduction of Carmine Jewel in 1999.  Since then, he has released 5 more, called the Romance series.  Each of the Romance cultivars has its own delightful attributes, such as best for fresh eating or best for processing.  Imagine having your own cherry orchard!

We have provided some cultural information for dwarf sour cherries but if you are looking at serious hobby or commercial production, we advise that you get a copy of Dwarf Sour Cherries: A Guide for Commercial Production from the University of Saskatchewan.

The hardy, delicious haskap is another U. of S. release!  Not only does it produce juicy fruit with a unique flavour, it is also an attractive, low maintenance plant for the garden.  We carry 5 cultivars of haskaps and look forward to new releases from Dr. Bors’ program.  He just returned from a summer-long sabbatical and was excited to find several plants that may provide superior germplasm for future cultivars.  We will work closely with Dr. Bors to keep up-to-date on the great work they are doing at the U. of S. to develop hardy fruit for the Prairies.
